Manifestations of violence in the football stadium: The case of Granada football Club

Abstract

Tomando como base el trabajo de investigación sobre la cultura de gradas generada en el estadio del Grana­da Club de Fútbol, desarrollado en el transcurso de tres temporadas futbolísticas (2013-2014, 2014-2015 y 2015-2016), centramos aquí la atención de manera exclusiva en los discursos y comportamientos que tienen que ver con las manifestaciones violentas en el citado estadio. En el proceso de producción de datos aplicamos una metodología cualitativa de carácter etnográfico, a la que se sumó también la técnica de encuesta. Entre las conclusiones cabe destacar que la tensión acumulada en el estadio es gestionada principalmente con manifesta­ciones de violencia verbal, seguida de gestual y simbó­lica; aunque el ambiente del público, por lo general, tiende más a la fiesta que a la bronca.

Based on the research work about the culture of stands generated at the Granada Club de Football stadium, developed over the course of three football seasons (2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016), we focus here exclusively in the speeches and behaviors that have to do with the violent manifestations in the mentioned stadium. In the process of data production we applied a qualitative methodology of ethnographic type, to which was also added the survey technique. Among the conclusions it should be noted that the accumulated strain in the stadium is mainly managed by manifestations of verbal violence, followed by gestual and symbolic; although the atmosphere of the spectators, usually, tends more to the party than to the anger.
