Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced healthcare systems to rapidly adapt clinical assessment, triage, and care processes in order to reduce the risk of infection and optimize available resources. In this context, the implementation of the “Pit Crew” methodology—originally developed for cardiopulmonary resuscitation—is proposed for the management of patients with suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection. This approach is based on predefined roles and tasks, coordinated teamwork, and the use of checklist-based procedures, aiming to reduce errors, avoid improvised actions, and limit healthcare workers’ exposure. The adaptation of the “Pit Crew COVID-19” model may enhance patient and staff safety and could be extrapolated to other situations involving similar biological risk.
