Abstract
Sharing is as old as humanity itself, however, both collaborative consumption and sharing economy are a phenomena born with internet that represent an attractive alternative for consumers and whose success has caused an intense debate about its definition, effects and future regulation. Companies like Airbnb, Uber and other platforms have transformed the housing and transport markets and the way we consume, work or interact. In this paper we consider what scope both phenomena can have and analyze what reasons explain the initial success of the phenomenon and if the term is still valid or there is an alternative on the horizon. This work includes a documentary analysis and semi-standardized interviews with seven experts through a questionnaire that allows us to reflect on the initial success of the phenomenon and the emergence of gig economy, on demand platforms, platform economy and digital capitalism.
