Abstract
“Scotopic vision”, or vision in the absence of light, is a topic of Aristotelian work that has hardly been studied. This article examines the reception of the Aristotelian con ception of scotopic vision by the Greek commentators: Alexander of Aphrodisias, Themistius, Philoponus, Simplicius, and Priscian of Lydia. It shows the coincidences and discrepancies among them and the problems that their respective interpretations intend to solve in relation to De Anima II 7. In the translations and commentaries of this chapter the problematic of the “scotopic vision” is either not addressed or is analyzed in a subsidiary way, but not in itself.
