Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships of perceived basic psychological needs, intrinsic motivation and esteem, and life satisfaction in womens’ fitness training. The sample consisted of 259 women practicing fitness classes, aged between 18 and 58 years. Using structural equation analysis, perceived basic psychological needs positively predicted intrinsic motivation, positively influencing esteemand satisfaction with lifetime. The predictive model exposed the importance of promoting satisfaction of autonomy, competence and social relationships for improved self-esteem. Consequently, greater satisfaction with the women’s’ lives towards obtaining positive effects from practicing fitness classes were found, although necessary experimental studies that show a cause and effect relationship between these variables are needed.
