Sex and gender in the contest of identity in sport. A proposal for a debate on multi-gender sports competition

Abstract

Este artículo cuestiona las estructuras sexistas del deporte de competición cuya expresión más representativa es la segregación en modalidades masculinas y femeninas. Teniendo en cuenta la importancia del de-porte en la construcción de la subjetividad, se valora la repercusión que tiene dicha segregación como dispositivo biopolítico de la identidad individual de género. Se toma como referencia la normativa de los organismos deportivos internacionales sobre la verificación del género, de aplicación a deportistas mujeres, y se indaga en el proceso de configuración bipolar del deporte. Se analizan los argumentos que impiden un cambio de mentalidad y de estructuras y se plantea, a título exploratorio, un debate sobre la posibilidad de transformar el deporte de competición en una práctica multigénero.This article questions the sexist structures of competitive sport with the segregation of male and female athletes. The value and importance of sport is an important area for consideration in its use as a biopolitical device for individual gender identity. We used the rules of international organizations on gender verification for female athletes, and explores the bipolar configuration of sport. The arguments that prevent a change of ways of thinking and structures are analyzed and it raises a debate and investigates the possibility of transforming the competitive sport into a multi-gender practice.
