Prensa Latina y Telesur TV, surgimiento y limitaciones de dos medios de comunicación con ideales contrahegemónicos

Abstract

Este artículo busca comparar dos medios de comunicación con ideales contrahegemónicos como lo son Prensa Latina y Telesur TV. Las motivaciones que dieron surgimiento a ambos fueron similares: la búsqueda de una mirada distinta que rompiera la visión que imponían los medios mayores, en especial las agencias de noticias internacionales. Más allá de esos ideales, los impulsos que les dieron los gobiernos de Cuba en el primer caso y de Venezuela en el segundo les ayudaron a crecer, pero también terminaron limitándolos. Este trabajo se enmarca en una investigación mayor que intenta articular Historia de las Ideas y Estudios de Periodismo para constituir una Historia de las Ideas del Periodismo Latinoamericano. Con base en la teoría crítica de Antonio Gramsci y de la noción de hegemonía, se analizará el uso de los medios para perseguir distintos intereses y cómo a la vez estas mismas herramientas pueden usarse en un sentido inverso, es decir de manera contrahegemónica.This article compares two communication media with counter hegemonic ideals. They are Prensa Latina and Telesur TV. The motivations for the creation of both were similar: the search for a different look that could break the vision imposed by bigger media, specially the international news agencies. Beyond those ideals, the impulse given by the governments of Cuba in the first case and of Venezuela in the second helped them to grow but also ended up putting limits to them. This work is part of a larger research that tries to articulate History of Ideas and Journalism Studies so as to create a History of Ideas of the Latin American Journalism. Based on the critical theory of Antonio Gramsci and the notion of hegemony, the use of media will be analysed to pursue different interests and how in turn these tools can be used in an inverse sense, in a counter hegemonic way.
