Abstract

In a highly polarized society, the battle for public opinion is relevant for political parties, especially considering the general elections. To this end, they leverage not only their own communications, but also that of their foundations, considering social media as a tool to reach larger audiences. This research investigates the involvement of Spanish political party entities in the 2023 general election campaign, as well as their digital communication strategy. To this end, a qualitative content analysis is conducted, breaking down their social media presence, the type of content shared, and its relationship with party ideology. The results point to minimal, but not non-existent, involvement, which focuses on support for candidates who are aligned with or critical of both opposition parties and candidates. The results point to a minimal, but non-non-existent, involvement, which consists of support for candidates aligned with the party with or critical with the opposition and, broadly speaking, their publications refer to ideological issues related to the allied party or the promotion of events and publications.
