Abstract
The regional economy of Murcia in the second half of the 19th century had a great development, driven by the growth of international demand, and characterized by the technological modernization of the companies created to take advantage of business opportunities, and real protagonists of this development. One of the fastest expanding economic sectors was the agribusiness, and its subsidiary companies, particularly factories of wooden packing for export. Although most of the biggest canning companies had their own manufacturing packing workshops, there were independent companies such as the society Alejandro Delgado y Cia., which had a constant development since its founding in 1887.
