Abstract
necesidad.
The main objective of the present study was to describe the relationship between sport variables (years of practice, months of training, number of weekly training, duration of training and competitive level), demographic variables (gender and age) and basic psychological needs. The “Basic Needs Satisfaction in Sport Scale” assesses the satisfaction of basic psychological needs (competence, relatedness and autonomy) in the sport field. The sample consisted of 690 athletes aged 13 to 35 (M = 17.81; SD = 4.01), who completed the Spanish version of this scale and additional questions of a demographic and sporting nature. Descriptive statistics were calculated and nonparametric statistical tests were performed with the IBM SPSS program. The results indicated that competence increases with the years of practice and number of weekly workouts; relatedness satisfaction increases with the number of trainings; and autonomy-choice grows with the years of practice, months of training and number of trainings. For the demographic variables, the men presented greater autonomy-choice satisfaction than the women, however, they showed greater satisfaction in relatedness. Finally, an inversely proportional relationship was observed between the age of the athlete and the satisfaction of the autonomy-locus need, so at older age, less satisfaction of the need.
