Abstract
Temporomandibular disorders can cause a decrease in the quality of life of those individuals who suffer them. This fact makes it vitally important to study the origin of these affections in depth. Currently, the scientific literature suggests that the aetiological factors are: trauma, deep painful stimulus, emotional stress and occlusion. The aim of this paper was to study the relationship between orofacial pain and two variables, sex and occlusion. For this purpose, we collected data from 110 individuals by a questionnaire and we observed their lateral and anterior excursive guides. The results showed a significant relationship between orofacial pain and the two variables mentioned. However, it is important that we take into consideration the relationship of aetiological factors and the adaptability of the individual. For all these reasons, and in order to provide each patient with a completely individualised treatment, it is important that more studies are carried out aimed at understanding what makes one person more adaptable than another.
