Narrativas juveniles de uso problemático del smartphone

Abstract

Los estudios sobre la relación de los jóvenes con las tecnologías digitales señalan su importancia en la cultura juvenil, al tiempo que destacan los efectos negativos derivados de su uso. El objetivo de esta investigación es estudiar las narrativas juveniles en torno al smartphone y su uso problemático. El material empírico forma parte de los resultados de un proyecto de investigación y consiste en 24 entrevistas en profundidad con jóvenes residentes en la ciudad de Murcia. Los resultados confirman que el smartphone ocupa un lugar central en las narrativas de los jóvenes sobre su percepción de la tecnología, sobre sus patrones de uso, sobre sus intentos por regularlo o sobre su estado emocional. El énfasis en la responsabilidad individual y el uso de un lenguaje de la adicción caracterizan igualmente las narrativas analizadas. Entre las conclusiones, se recomienda potenciar enfoques de tipo educativo-comunitario que orienten y den soporte alas personas jóvenes en su relación con la tecnología.

Studies on the relationship between young people and digital technologies highlight their importance in youth culture,while also pointing out the negativeeffects of their use. The aim of this research is to examine young people’s narratives regarding smartphones and problems involving their use. The empirical data are part of the results of a research project consisting of 24 in-depth interviews with young people living in the city of Murcia. The results confirm that the smartphone occupies a central place in young people’s narratives regarding their perception of technology, their usage patterns, their attempts to regulate it, and their emotional state. An emphasis on individual responsibility and the use of addiction-related language also characterize the analyzed narratives. Among the conclusions, it is recommended to promote community-based educational approaches that guide and support young people in their relationship with technology.
